Different Types of Pine Straw

Slash Pine Straw is cheaper and more easily available in Ohio, however…Carolina Longleaf Pine Straw is a far superior product. Here are a few reasons why:

Longleaf has a bright, red-orange color; Slash is more brown in color which it does not retain nearly as long as Longleaf.

Longleaf needles are typically 12”-18” compared to that of Slash at 6”-10”.

Longleaf bales do not breakdown as Slash bales do so quickly.

Longleaf bales spread further, providing more coverage than Slash bales. A typical Longleaf bale is 11x12x26 and covers 40-55 sq. ft., depending on desired thickness, initial installation versus second coating, and how much bed edging there is.
